BY THE MOG CHRONICLE TEAM
We are thrilled to announce that Violet in Year 5 won the first ever Great Mog Bake-Off during last weekend’s Summer Festival.
Violet made brown sugar snickerdoodle biscuits with melted Belgium chocolate.
During the Bake-Off, eight judges from the Mog Chronicle tasted 16 sweet treats.
So, as you can imagine, the competition was really fierce.
The cakes ALL looked amazing and tasted amazing too. But someone had to win….
And Violet was the number one choice of every judge!!

“I’m very happy. I was very surprised actually. I saw all those other really good cakes and thought the level was high,” said Violet, who admitted she ran around screaming with joy when she found out she had won.
The cakes were judged for texture, taste and presentation.
The Mog Chronicle team mostly loved the taste of Violet’s biscuits but they also thought her entry was really well presented with a small bowl of dipping chocolate in the middle of the plate. They were perfectly soft and crunchy, too.
Huge congratulations must also go to the runners up.
Second place went to Laurence and Alison Farara who made a stunning raspberry and lemon cake.
Close behind in third place were Ava and Lyra, two former JKPS students, with their delicious meringue.

Our winning baker said she got no help from anyone in the making of her fantastic batch of biscuits.
“I tested the recipe out quite a bit,” Violet said. “Everybody in my family and my neighbours liked it.”
“Of course I wanted to win but yeah, all those cakes were super good,” she added.
The Bake-Off champion told us some of the secret ingredients – a lot of cinammon, 350g of brown sugar and 350g of granulated sugar.
One of the Mog Chronicle judges, Kian, thinks it might have been the high sugar content that secured her victory: “I really like sugar,” he said.
Violet’s advice for any budding bakers is to “just do what you want to do.”
“It doesn’t matter if you mess up,” she said. “It’s all about testing things out and being creative.”
Violet’s prize is a £15 voucher for the Paper Cat bookshop which she plans to spend on some new Percy Jackson books.
CONGRATULATIONS VIOLET!!!
