End of Year: How To Cope With Moving Up A Class

At the end of the summer term, every class in the school will move up a year group.

That means that all the students in Reception will be in the big playground next year and part of Year 1. And all the Year 6 students are heading off to secondary school.

For me, it means I will move into Year 3.

It can feel a bit scary moving up into a new year group. It already feels like we are learning a lot of hard things in Year 2. And also I don’t want to leave Ms. Nikki’s class.

But here are some things to do to make it feel less scary:

  • Take some deep breaths. Using your five fingers you can count up to five and breathe in, and when you count down to zero you can breathe out.
  • When you learn new things it might be scary for you. But don’t give up and always ask for help.
  • Your teacher might be a bit strict at first but you will get used to them more throughout the year.
  • Talk to someone in a higher year and they might be able to give you some advice.
  • Talk to your daddy or your mummy if you are feeling a bit worried or scared. They will be able to help you and they can also let the teacher know how you are feeling, if you want.

Starting a new school year always feels a bit different but lots of other children will be feeling exactly the same way as you.

And remember that you are at a nice school where people want to help you.
