Rocksteady has been introduced to our school in the past year and the students of JKPS already love it.
Rocksteady is an in-school band that teaches you how to play instruments and collaborate. There are five instruments – two of each of them in every group, except for base guitar.
The instruments are piano, drums, guitar, bass and singing. Children get pulled out of class to have 30-minute long music lessons each week. Lots of students have signed up, but not all of them, like Samuel in Year 5.
We asked him why he wants to become part of the Rocksteady club.
“Because I can learn instruments and when guests come over I can show them my talent and I would have fun,” Samuel said.
Question: “Do you think your parents will let you join Rocksteady?”
“Definitely,” said Samuel.
This interview shows that Rocksteady is high in demand and students think it can truly help them improve their musical skills. We spoke to Naomi who is in Year 2. She told us all about why she likes being part of a Rocksteady band.
“I like it because I like the songs I pick and the people there are nice,” Naomi said.
Question: “If there was one thing you could change about Rocksteady what would it be?”
Naomi: “The songs that are on the list.”
Question: “What instruments are you most interested in playing?”
Naomi: “Keyboard or drums.”
As you can see loads of people love Rocksteady. BUT some people get a bit nervous ahead of the big performances which happen at the end of each term. They are a way for the bands to gain experience performing in front of a crowd and also for our parents to see what we have been up to. But there are a lot of people in the audience! I have been in the performance and the first one it was very nerve-wracking, but it was still incredibly fun. All the parents sit in rows in the big hall while bands perform. It is so nice when your parents come and you get to go to chat with them at the end.
