As most of you know, the new movie “Wicked” has come out. Wicked is based on the Wizard of Oz, a classic story that shows the sides of a good witch and a bad witch. But in the movie, instead of it being about the Wizard and Dorothy, it is more about the Wicked Witch of the West named Elphaba and the Good Witch Glinda and how they met at school. Glinda is played by Ariana Grande and Elphaba is played by Cynthia Erivo.

The plot is that Elphaba learns that she can do magic and reads from the Grimmerie, a magical spellbook written in an ancient language.

The coolest bit in the movie is when Elphaba sings “Defying Gravity” and is flying around with flying monkeys chasing her.

The movie is full of pink, green and yellow colours and all filmed with real actors, by the flying monkeys are animated. The actors were also singing the songs live during the performance, which is pretty amazing as most songs are pre-recorded and the actors are only miming.

You should watch this movie if you liked the original Wizard of Oz because it shows the true nature of the Wizard – and the fact that he can’t read from the Grimmerie.

And exclusively for fans: Part Two is coming out on November 21, 2025.
