Lynx On The Loose!

Watch out if you’re in Scotland because there are four dangerous animals on the loose. Surprisingly, somebody has released these carnivorous cats called Lynx illegally into the wild. Police say do not go near them if they are spotted – they may look like cuddly creatures but they are actually the opposite of what you think they are.

WHAT IS A LYNX?

Lynx are medium-sized, solitary wildcats that usually roam the forests of North America, Europe and Asia. Their name is Greek, meaning “to shine”. The reason for their name is because their eyes are reflective. Did you know that Lynx have tufts of hair above their ears and short stubby tails?

HOW MANY SPECIES OF LYNX ARE THERE?

There are four species in total: Canadian Lynx, Iberian Lynx, Eurasian Lynx and Bobcat Lynx. The European and Iberian Lynx are found in western Europe and East Asia.

UPDATE:

Sadly, one of the cats has died. But luckily three survived and they are now living in Edinburgh Zoo. Somehow the three cats were tame to humans, yet nobody knows who released them into the wild – or why.

QUESTIONS THAT WE WOULD LIKE ANSWERS FOR:

  • Who let them out?
  • Could it be someone who was keeping them as pets?
  • What if it was someone who felt injustice that the government doesn’t allow wild cats to live in Scotland?
