Review: The Odyssey

On Wednesday the 17th of April, Year 5 were lucky enough to go to the Unicorn Theatre to watch the production of The Odyssey. On the Thursday after the play, we all reviewed the show with our own thoughts and opinions. They are pictured below.

[ DISCLAMER: These are the children’s opinions. Other audience members or parents may disagree).

In general, Year 5 pupils enjoyed the day out and the experience of being at a theatre. Watching live actors on stage is ultimately interesting. Most students loved the show, particularly the acting, multi-rolling (when one actor plays many roles) and comedy. For some children it wasn’t their cup of tea, as they would have preferred more action or mystery..!

We will share some quotes from the production reviews which Year 5 created.

“Utterly amazing” said Jim.
“It had me on the edge of my seat! This play in three words: ‘Playful, quirky and
adventurous!’” said Sophie.
“The projector was well done and was orderly set out,” said Val.
“This play had me feeling a roller coaster of emotions, as it had plot twists that surprised me, through the ups and downs!” said Jake.
“These four fantastic actors transported us to Ithica, ancient Greece!” said Emily.
“This show slightly disappointed. The show started 20 minutes late, which was inexcusable, and it made me snore as it was so boring,” said Archie.
“The waiting time was absolutely atrocious; I was tired by the end of the afternoon,” said Val.
“There were some phenomenal characters, some favourites were the cyclops as the
costume with the giant eye was original,” said Val.
“I didn’t understand what was happening in the lair of the sea monster, and during the show a sword was given to a child in the front row, however at the end of the production it was cruelly taken away! This is disgraceful,” said Sophie.
“The sheep had a great sense of humour especially when they said: ‘I hate to be the baaaa-rer of bad news’,” said Sophie.
“The largest dislike from my perspective was the title because it mislead us to think the show would include Odysseus whereas we only met his son Telamachus,” said Edgar.
“A brilliant played retelling of the odyssey!” said Emily.

Overall, this play was a huge hit and most of us loved it.
